Advanced Dentistry

Dental health is just as important for pets as it is for humans! Regular professional cleaning is important to maintain your pet's teeth. It's a known fact that we can add 2 years to the life of the pet simply by keeping the mouth clean. Not only will your pet's breath smell better, but there will also be less chance of oral infection caused by a buildup of bacteria under the gums. This decreases the chance of kidney & heart disease caused by infections spreading throughout the body from the mouth. We highly recommend twice yearly wellness exams, which include dental examinations, to protect your pet from dental disease. Our trained doctors will thoroughly inspect your pet’s gums and teeth for any dental issues. Fortunately, the majority of dental disease can be treated and prevented in most pets.

Our Dental Services:

  • Professional Cleanings (full assessment of all teeth, digital radiography, and scaling/polishing tartar)
  • Advanced Dentistry (extractions and oral surgery)
  • Preventative and Maintenance Oral Health Care

Dental X-rays Are Critical

Digital dental radiographs (x-rays) are an important tool in diagnosing and treating oral and dental disease. Without dental radiographs, dental problems (infections) can be missed since over 50% of each tooth lives below the gumline. Dental radiographs help aid in diagnosis, treatment, monitoring and post-operative success.

Digital dental radiographs are used to view the dental tissues and supporting structures for the teeth. They are also used to identify problems with the crowns of the teeth, facial and jaw bones as well as the nasal cavity. They are useful for evaluating the crown and roots of teeth as well as the supporting bone and soft tissue.

High definition intraoral digital radiographs provide exceptionally clear pictures for better diagnosis and use approximately 90% less than the usual dosage of radiation. Additionally, intraoral digital radiographs require less time to produce quality films, thus decreasing the time that your pet is under anesthesia.

Understanding What Your Pet’s Dental Health Grade Means

Grade 1

  • Mild gingivitis and plaque are present
  • Your pet needs a professional cleaning

Grade 2

  • Mild to moderate tartar (mineralized plaque and bacteria) and gingivitis are present on multiple teeth
  • Your pet needs a professional cleaning, and oral surgery may be indicated

Grade 3

  • Heavy tartar and periodontal disease with bone loss are present, and oral pain is likely
  • Tooth lesions and fractures may be present under tartar
  • Your pet needs a professional cleaning likely followed by oral surgery

Grade 4

  • Severe tartar, periodontal disease, and oral pain are present, and tooth loss is imminent
  • Your pet needs a professional cleaning followed by oral surgery
